U.S. tour of 'La Cage' planned for 2011

NEW YORK, May 7 (UPI) -- A U.S. tour of the Broadway musical "La Cage aux Folles" is set to begin in the fall of 2011,

the show's producers said Friday.

The production was nominated this week for 11 Tony Awards, including Best Revival of a Musical.

The tour will feature the work of the production's entire Tony-nominated creative team: director Terry Johnson, choreographer Lynne Page, set designer Tim Shortall, costume designer Matthew Wright, lighting designer Nick Richings, sound designer Jonathan Deans and orchestrator/musical supervisor Jason Carr.

Further details on the national tour are expected to be announced soon, the producers said.

Starring Kelsey Grammer and Douglas Hodge, "La Cage aux Folles" opened on Broadway April 18.

It previously played from Nov. 23, 2007, to March 8, 2008, at London's Menier Chocolate Factory before moving to the West End's Playhouse Theatre on Oct. 30, 2008, and ran through Jan. 2, 2010.

The show features music and lyrics by Jerry Herman and script by Harvey Fierstein. It is based on the play by Jean Poiret.
