Recent NY Times Article Sustains the Advertising and Programming Initiatives Offered by the Broadway Channel’s Digital Network for Manhattan Hotels

March 1, 2005, Coral Gables, FL - The article, Drawn to Broadway from Near and, Mostly, Far by Jesse McKinley, which appeared in the Arts Section, January 13, 2005 clearly illustrates the role of both international and domestic tourists as the largest demographic for purchasing tickets to Broadway shows.

The validity of Jesse McKinley's article purporting that "tourists make-up two thirds of every musical's audience as it continues to expand and reach more and more tourists in New York City" is proven as the demand for the Broadway Channel in Manhattan hotels grows. The League of American Theatres and Producers found that "during the 2003-4 season only 16.7 percent of the Broadway audience came from inside the New York City limits with Manhattan residents the largest chunk), with an additional 22.9 percent coming from suburban areas in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York. About half the 2003-4 crowd came from the rest of the United States, while a little more than 10 percent consisted of international tourists" (The New York Times, January 13, 2005).

The Broadway Channel is now available to 40,659 New York hotel guests daily, available in 59 hotels including the exclusive Mandarin Oriental Time Warner Center. The Broadway Channel’s digital network enables advertising and special programming content to be provided daily with "time of day" emphasis for promoting and informing hotel guests on the availability of many Broadway and Off-Broadway productions.

Programming includes previews of current on and off-Broadway performances, star interviews and special events. Also including segments highlighting Broadway on Broadway and 2004 Tony Awards. Star interviews with many of Broadway biggest stars, including with Bruce Vilanch of Hairspray, Maureen McGovern of Little Women, Gary Beach of La Cage Aux Folles, Brooke Tansley of Beauty & The Beast, Richard Kind and Alan Ruck of the Producers, Barry Humphries of Dame Edna Back with a Vengeance to name just a few.

The Broadway Channel® also has a distribution agreement with Time Warner Cable as a direct fiber feed of programming while expanding The Broadway Channel® audience to reach additional Manhattan hotel guests. The fiber feed launch includes fine hotels representing destinations in New York City including Chambers, The Peninsula, The Lowell, the Grand Hyatt and the Plaza Athena.
